Chocolate Buckwheat Breakfast Porridge
This chocolatey buckwheat porridge is one of my favourite cosy breakfasts. It’s rich and comforting, but still feels nourishing thanks to the wholegrain buckwheat, cacao and fruit on top.
Ingredients
Ingredient
- buckwheat, rinsed
- unsweetened soya milk
- cacao powder
- maple syrup, plus extra to serve
- banana, peeled + sliced
- orange, peeled + sliced
Method
- 1
Add the rinsed buckwheat and soya milk to a saucepan and bring to the boil.
- 2
Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the buckwheat is soft and the porridge is thick and creamy.
- 3
Stir in the cacao powder and maple syrup. Add an extra splash of milk or water if you prefer the porridge to be a bit looser, then divide the porridge between bowls.
- 4
Top the porridge with sliced banana, orange and an extra drizzle of maple syrup, if you like.

“We've tried a couple of recipes with buckwheat for breakfast and this is definitely a favourite! It's like having dessert for breakfast, but not feeling guilty about it!”
